Omaha (hi low) Rules

The rules for Omaha hi low are very similar to those that are found with Omaha. The biggest difference between the two is that at the conclusion of the game, the pot will be split among the player with the best hand and the player who has the lowest hand. In other words, to win at Omaha hi low, you will need to either has the lowest hand or the highest hand. The minium qualification for this game is an 8. The high hand is considered to be the standard 5 card hand that is seen in poker. Like most Omaha variations, the rules of Omaha hi low require players to make a 5 card combination with their two hole cards and three community cards.
The low hand is the lowest hand that can be obtained. The player who gets the low hand will be given a portion of the pot. The rules for the low hand require that the player must have five cards that all have a value of either the number 8 or lower. No pairs are allowed for the low hand, although it is allowed for the high hand. Flushes and straighs are now counted when evaluating the low hand. It is impossible for any player to have a low hand unless the three cards from the board are combined with the two hole cards. Any player that has 5 cards which are numbered 8 or higher cannot attempt to get the low hand. Overall, the rules for Omaha hi low are fairly straight forward, and learning this game is easy when you sufficiently practice.
At the end of the game, if now players can get the low hand, the entire pot will be given to the one player that has the high hand, and the pot will not be divided. In addition to this, players are allowed to play for both hands. In the event that a player successfully gets both a low and high hand, they are given both portions of the pot, and this is referred to as being the sweeping of the pot.
