With all the training camp news I keep hearing, I sure am getting excited for football season to begin. Did you know this is the 91st season the National Football League has had.

Yes, they started on August 20, 1920 with eleven teams as the American Professional Football Association. The league changed its name to the National Football League in 1922. Super Bowl XLV will be February 6, 2011 in Texas.

On Thursday, September 9 at 8:35 p.m. EDT, the 2010 NFL season will begin. The game will be broadcast live on NBC. The first game is at the Louisiana Superdome, between the Super Bowl XLIV winning New Orleans Saints and the Minnesota Vikings.

The new Meadowlands Stadium will host two games opening weekend. The New York Giants will play on Sunday with a 1 PM EDT kickoff against the Carolina Panthers. The New York Jets will open ESPN’s Monday Night Football schedule against the Baltimore Ravens the next night.

The regular season will be 17 weeks of fierce football action. Each team vying for their playoff spot. The 2010 regular season will use a schedule modified for the first time since 2002. The schedule was modified to ease the travel of east coast teams to the west coast twice in one season.

The entire Week 17 schedule, to be played on January 2, 2011, will consist of only divisional contests to increase competition after several cases over the last few seasons of players on playoff bound teams resting their regular starters and playing their reserves.

The post season will begin January 8 with the wild card week. Followed by divisional playoffs then the NFC and AFC Championship games. After that the remaining two teams are off to Cowboys Stadium in North Texas, where Super Bowl XLV will be held February 6, 2011.

Get yourself ready for the games with Bookmaker bonuses for the best in sports betting. This season is sure to be a great one, and you well want to get in on the action.

The history of poker is a matter of some debate. The name of the game likely descended from the French poque, which descended from the German pochen (‘to knock’). Yet it is not clear whether the origins of poker itself lie with the games bearing those names. It closely resembles the Persian game of as nas, and may have been taught to French settlers in New Orleans by Persian sailors. It is commonly regarded as sharing ancestry with the Renaissance game of primero and the French brelan. The English game brag (earlier bragg) clearly descended from brelan and incorporated bluffing (though the concept was known in other games by that time). It is quite possible that all of these earlier games influenced the development of poker as it exists now.

English actor Joseph Crowell reported that the game was played in New Orleans in 1829, with a deck of 20 cards, four players betting on which player’s hand was the most valuable. Jonathan H. Green’s book, An Exposure of the Arts and Miseries of Gambling (G. B. Zieber, Philadelphia, 1843), described the spread of the game from there to the rest of the country by Mississippi riverboats, on which gambling was a common pastime. As it spread up the Mississippi and West during the gold rush, it is thought to have become a part of the frontier, pioneering ethos.

Harry Truman’s poker chips Soon after this spread, the full 52-card English deck was used, and the flush was introduced. During the American Civil War, many additions were made, including draw poker, stud poker (the five-card variant), and the straight. Further American developments followed, such as the wild card (around 1875), lowball and split-pot poker (around 1900), and community card poker games (around 1925). The spread of the game to other countries, particularly in Asia, is often attributed to the U.S. military.

The game and jargon of poker have become important parts of American culture and English culture. Such phrases and clichés as ace in the hole, ace up one’s sleeve, beats me, blue chip, call one’s bluff, cash in, high roller, pass the buck, poker face, stack up, up the ante, when the chips are down, wild card, and others are used in everyday conversation, even by those unaware of their origins at the poker table.

Modern tournament play became popular in American casinos after the World Series of Poker began, in 1970. Notable champions from these early WSOP tournaments include Johnny Moss, Amarillo Slim, and Doyle Brunson. It was also during that decade that the first serious strategy books appeared, notably Super/System by Doyle Brunson (ISBN 1-58042-081-8) and The Book of Tells by Mike Caro (ISBN 0-89746-100-2), followed later by The Theory of Poker by David Sklansky (ISBN 1-880685-00-0).

Poker’s popularity experienced an unprecedented spike in the first years of the 21st century, largely because of the introduction of online poker and the invention of the hole-card camera, which turned the game into a spectator sport. Viewers could now follow the action and drama of the game, and broadcasts of poker tournaments such as the World Series of Poker and the World Poker Tour brought in huge audiences for cable and satellite TV distributors. Because of the increasing coverage of poker events, poker pros are becoming more and more like celebrities, with poker fans all over the world entering into expensive tournaments for the chance to play with them. This increased camera exposure also brings a new dimension to the poker professional’s game—the realization that their actions may be aired later on TV.

Major poker tournament fields have grown dramatically because of the growing popularity of online satellite-qualifier tournaments where the prize is an entry into a major tournament. The 2003 and 2004 WSOP champions, Chris Moneymaker and Greg Raymer, respectively, won their seats to the main event by winning online satellites.

Like most variations of poker, winning at Texas Holdem will require players to take an aggressive approach. To use this strategy, you will want to play only a few hands, which is also referred to as “playing tight.” However, with the few hands that you play, you will want to bet and raise them more often. However, this is just one of the many successful strategies that are employed by veteran poker players. One of the things that most expert poker players agree on is that position is one of the most important factors in your success or failure in the game of poker.
In Texas holdem variations such as no-limit holdem, position is critically important. One good strategy is to let the other players act first, and get all the information you can on them. Doing this will allow you to play only a few hands at the beginning of the game, and you will have more information to aid you towards the conclusion of the tournament. It should be noted that even though fixed limit and no-limit are both variations of Texas holdem, the strategies used to win at these games are radically different. In most cases, a player that is skilled at one variation will not be skilled at the other.
Another factor that you will want to look at is the stakes involved. Texas holdem games that have lower stakes will often feature more players per hand, and the game may either be passive or highly aggressive. When the game is passive, only a small amount of bets and raises are made, while the game is considered to be aggressive in a situation where a large number of raises are being made. To succeed at Texas holdem, you must first understand probability. The connection between the odds of success and the pot odds are very important. Pot odds is the ratio of the amount of the bet needed for the pot in relation to the amount of money in the pot.
To give an example, if the game requires a player to bet a minimum of 10 for an opportunity to win a $50 pot, the ratio is 1 to 5. Deception is also an important part of Texas holdem. The goal of any player should be to get their competitors to play differently than they would play if they were able to view their cards. If your competitors are highly observant, you may need to bluff.

Texas holdem is one of the most popular variations of poker in the United States. It can be played with a maximum of 22 players, but in most cases, only a maximum of 10 players are present in a single game. It is a very positional game, and the sequence of betting is fixed during the game. Like most forms of poker, the goal of Texas holdem is to acquire the pot, which is a lump sum of money that is bet by all the players. There are two primary ways that a player can win during a game of Texas holdem.
The player can either form the the best hand out of the 7 available cards, or they can place a bet that will force their competitors to fold and give up their attempts to gain the pot. Texas holdem is played with both large and small blind bets. Antes may also be used as well. A dealer button will symbolize the player who is in the position of the dealer, and the dealer will rotate around the table so that each player can become the dealer. This will be done after each hand is dealt. The small blind will be presented by the player who is sitting to the left of the dealer, and the large blind is presented by the player who is to the left of the player that has presented the small blind.
When a game of Texas holdem begins, all the players will be given two cards that must lie face down on the table. These are called the pocket cards. If blinds are used, the game will start with the player sitting to the left of the big blind. If the game does not feature blinds, it will begin with the player sitting just to the left of the dealer. The game will rotate around the table in a clockwise motion.
The big blind is a minimum bet, and the small blind should be exactly half of the big blind. In tournaments, the blind will become larger as the tournament moves toward the conclusion. The game of Texas holdem is further broken down into three styles, and these are pot-limit, no-limit, and limit. Once the pre-flop round is over, the dealer will present what is called a flop. Once the flop is completed, the second round will start, and the players will place their bets once again. Once the flop round is completed, a community card will be presented, and the third round will begin. A fourth round and a showdown may be necessary to complete the game. If a player makes a bet that causes all the other players to fold, they win the pot.
