7 Card Stud (hi low) Rules
Seven card stud hi low is a variation of poker in which players will play both high and low. The low card will determine the the moves that are made in the beginning round. The ace card may be used as a high card, and in the following rounds, the high hand will play a central role in the moves that are made by the players. If a tie occurs with the high hand, the player who is next to the dealer in the clockwise direction will get to make their move first. On fixed limit games, the the upper limit will be used on some betting rounds, while the lower limit will be used on other rounds. An open pair will not alter the limit in any way.
The ace can be used for either a low or high. The flushes and straights will not alter the low of your hand. All the players are given the option of choosing any five hands to generate the best hand possible, and the same thing is true for the low hand as well. A minimum of an 8 for low must be gained in seven card stud hi low. Unless there is a specific hand that is needed for low, the player with the most optimal high hand will be awarded the entire pot. When the ace card is used for a high card, the low card may be used to start the very first round. However, it should be noted that using the ace for high or low is allowed.
In seven card stud hi low, flushes and straights cannot alter the value of a low hand in any way. If the game is fixed limit, a lower limit for the fourth or third street can be used. Whether or not the pot is split among some of the players is determined by the cards rather than what the players have agreed on before the game starts. If there is an odd chip present in the pot, the chip should be put towards the high hand. In the event that two players make a tie for the low and high, the pot must be split evenly between them. If there is an odd chip within the higher portion of the pot, and more than two hands must split this pot, the odd chip must be handed to the player that has a high card based on suit.
